How to Advertise on TikTok

You've heard all about TikTok, and how young teens are dancing, how the platform is so young that there's no point for a business to be on there, and that "those people won't buy."

Well, we want to share a few things with you:

  1. There are more than just teens dancing on TikTok, and you can see that by searching for anything you want in the "Discovery" feature. Seriously, try it now.

  2. Here is the breakdown of TikTok's demographics by age that was updated for 2022

3. The average user spends 68 minutes on TikTok a DAY! Yes, in one day.

We have had an attention shift folks, and brands taking advantage of TikTok are winning!

So... how do you advertise on TikTok?

First, let's talk about what you need.

  1. A Business Manager Account through TikTok: https://us.tiktok.com/business/en-US

  2. An Ad Account on TikTok: https://ads.tiktok.com/i18n/

Second, let's talk about how to run TikTok Ads and things to keep in mind when creating these ads.

TikTok is a video-only platform, meaning you can upload videos and/or photos to a draft and create a video around it. This means that you will need video content more than likely.

With TikTok, you are creating a short piece of content that will be featured in someone's timeline, so make sure to include a strong Hook Point when creating your ad. This means creating "bait" that your customer will bite onto, not what you will bite on to. That is a common mistake that we see within most of our client's advertising and marketing efforts before we can help them create effective Hook Points.

Let's discuss the traditional landscape of advertising. It's describing who you are in a professional manner to make the user like, know, and trust you. Now, we're not saying professionalism should not be exemplified within your ad, we are saying that there are other facts you need to add to your ad as well, such as:

  1. Authenticity: Be your REAL self. Show your TRUE brand. People are smarter than you think and will be able to tell.

  2. Engage: Ask the potential people who see your ad to comment or share it with someone. This will give you social proof on the ad well as being able to leverage their comments to engage with them in the future.

  3. Direction: Make sure you are directing them to a link where they can take a specific action. Be creative with this. It could be a quiz, a survey, a free offer, something along those lines.

  4. Keep It Short: Keep your ad short, and use jump cuts if you are speaking directly to the camera, or are panning to different aspects of what your ad is about.

Now the big question, budget. Currently, TikTok has a daily minimum of $20 per day to run an ad. We actually love this amount, because the more ad spend you have, the more data you will receive, which means faster decisions, which means you get to your goal quicker. Who doesn't want that?

Now, this is just the tip of the iceberg, and there's a lot more to cover, within advertising as a whole, especially on TikTok, so if you have any questions or would like us to be the agency that takes your business or brand to the next level using TikTok Ads, head to the link below and we will be in touch shortly to schedule a call!
